Wintec's Easy Change Gullet System allows you to alter the width of the head of the saddle to achieve the most comfortable fit for the horse's wither and shoulder. You can change the width of the saddle head by changing the size of the gullet in the head of the saddle tree.
We call this system Easy as the head of the saddle can be opened without any unstitching to allow full access to the gullet. Combined with a screw in technique a gullet change is a simple exercise.
A gullet that is too narrow may pinch and restrict the horse's shoulder movement whilst a gullet that is too wide may cause the saddle to sit on the horse's wither leading to damage of the spine.
as the horse's level of fitness or maturity changes the rider should check the fit of the saddle. The gullet width and/or the stuffing in the panel of the saddle can be altered to suit the horse's changing shape. In addition to changeable gullet all Wintec saddles have wool flocked panels which can be restuffed at any time throughout the life of the saddle.
6 Steps Guide to Gullet Changing
Hold the saddle in a vertical position so the cantle is pointing towards the ground and the seat of the saddle is facing towards you. Keeping the saddle in this position place the saddle between yourself and the edge of a table or bench. This provides you with leverage and easy access to the head of the saddle.
1.Unscrew the two screws located under the skirts in the head of the saddle
2. Pull away the velcro closure in the head of the saddle and pull the panel down from the point pockets freeing the front half of the panel.
3. Remove the two screws at each end of the gullet plate
4. Fit new width gullet by only starting each screw until the gullet is lined up, then holding the gullet tight to the tree in the head of the saddle, fully tighten both screws
5. Re-fit the panel in the point pockets
6. Re-screw the head of the saddle and close velcro fastening. Important: Head screws must not be over tightened. A firm pressure is all that's needed!
