In 1880 Peter Berney, founded his small saddlery workshop at the heart of Irelands' equestrian epicentre in Kilcullen, Co. Kildare. This master craftsman could have hardly dreamt his small shop would span the centuries, to become one of the worlds most respected producers of quality tack. The age old skills that Peter Berney established in the fledgling company in the 19th century, have been passed on, thereby, maintaining the craftsmanship and quality but yet at the same time, moving with the times in terms of design and understanding the needs of both horse and rider. The saddles, produced at Berney Brothers are esteemed by many as simply the best. Continuity of tradition, innovation and technical excellence, are the hallmarks of the modern Berneys saddle. The family tradition at Berney's endures to this day. The founders great grand sons, Tom and Jim, are still to be seen directing operations at the Kilcullen premises while their sons, Thomas and Vincent, have also in turn, grasped the reins of excellence.
